Paramore

I'm not a big fan of Kings of Leon's version of this but if Paramore released this it would be my ish!

P.S. is Hayley wearing doc martens? :)

Also their new cd "Brand New Eyes" is out now and it's amazing! Ignorance is my anthem!

SNAPS!

snaps to Ri-Ri for killin' it for a whole week....dang girl! When you clean out your closet give me a ring!!! :)

THROWBACK: don't you miss New Jack Swing???

Lovin' Will Smith's crazy new jack moves haha...

I miss the days of eccentric dances, bright colors, doc martens, and baggy clothes. Honestly, everyone was so fly back then. Even if you were tacky, you at least took fashion risks. TLC were my absolute favorite though. Straight baggy and still sexy. New jack swing was more about the attitude and vibe of a person. In some way it is making a comeback, i've been spotting doc martens again in fashion.
When i watch "Hat 2 da back" i'm so jealous :) If i had an all female dance company it'd be done a lil' somethin like that.

ON THAT NEW NEW: Jimmy Choo

Lord knows Jimmy Choo will set you back in rent or a few car payments. But sometimes a girls gotta splurge!
These new babies are very reminiscent to the L.A. Brites you wore as a kid...the heel lights up when you walk.

ON THAT NEW NEW: Alexander Mcqueen tank

Once again if you love pop culture, you may be itchin' to purchase this.
It's pretty pretty pricey (around $260) but it would also look pretty on me. Should I pay my car registration or spend 260 on a tank? Necessity vs. want...hmmm

ON THAT NEW NEW: Fafi x Kweenz Destroy Fall 09

Urban streetwear line Kweenz Destroy collaborated with everyone's favorite french graffiti artist Fafi. This is the end reault. Looks cute to me... I'm especially diggin the first photo. Very bettie page meets around the way girl. CUTE!

Bloggin': Joy Bryant

Joy Bryant recently took to her blog to vent out her feelings on black culture and a woman's obsession with extensions. Its a good read and very hilarious! Check it:

As the threads of the grown-out tracks were being snipped, I broke out my laptop and began my ritualistic daily web search. I go from news of the day to articles/blogs about the news of the day, ending up on entertainment/gossip/fashion stuff.
But that day, something caught my attention and trumped all of the glowing reviews of President Obama’s health care speech:

It was Tyra’s hair.

National Real Hair Day? I missed that one…In fact, on National Real Hair Day, I was calling Extensions
Plus in L.A. to make sure they had enough of the 20” “relaxed roots” texture hair that I love oh so much (and that keeps selling out like crazy!), and making an appointment to get my hair, I mean, my weave, hooked up.

So Tyra, while I didn’t take part in your observance, I just want to say: “WOW!” You are such a brave woman for breaking the chains that bound you since your teenage years! What courage that took, for you to expose yourself to millions of people! Such fearlessness!

Oh, how I wish I had the guts to do that. I guess I’m much too much of an insecure, self-loathing Negro for all that self-acceptance foolishness.
I’m glad we got down to solving the mystery of what’s under your lace-front, though. I mean seriously, it was “THE” question that has perplexed the world over. And now we see that there’s a beautiful head of hair underneath it all, hair that was surprisingly relaxed and ready for the world. Whodathunkit?! If I had the same length and fullness of hair that you have, I might take my weave out too.

Ha!!!! I’m just playing! Even if I DID have your “real” hair, I’d still be wearing a few tracks or clip-ons up in there.

Why?

Because I’m straight weave fo life, kid!!!

Ima ride ride wit this weave, die die with this weave!!

Let me break it down for you:
See, I loooooove taking new hair out of the bag, combing through it with my fingers, holding it up with my two hands, and burying my face in it. Mmmm, mmmm, mmm! Nothing like a new batch of zig-zag curly to get your self esteem out of the dumps!

The feeling of getting my hair, I mean, my weave done over. I feel human again. I feel sexy. I feel powerful. It makes me feel…it makes me feel…it makes feel like a natural woman!!!

I can be whatever, whoever I want to be with the stroke of a sewing needle…

With long brown tresses and a tan, I’m Pocahontas, ’cause I got Indian in my family. With easy waves, I AM bohemian rhapsody goddess personified. And now that I got blond highlights! What!? I know I look like Beyonce! You can’t tell me nothing! Uh oh, uh oh…

And then I looked up from my computer, and caught a glimpse in the mirror of my head minus the long weavy locks. I looked crazy! Awww hell naw! I looked over at the new batch of hair sitting off to the side waiting to join forces with me. Damnit, I’m trapped, I thought to myself. I can’t let it go. I am powerless over it. Just when I think I’m done, it pulls me back in!

Now I guess I can get help for my self-loathing addiction.
I can learn to accept myself in my entirety. I can emancipate myself from that which keeps me locked-up. I can embrace the natural state of things.

Yup, I can do all of that…

But don’t hold your breath!

Hi, my name is Joy, and I’m a weave-a-holic.

A black girl with a Capital B!

Everybody knows I love me some Beyonce.
This performance Sasha Fierce was extra saucy at the Essence Music Festival. She did her thing and performed "If I were a boy" and also her rendition of Alanis Morrisette's "You Oughta Know". I loved both! Check it out.

Homesick me.

This past week I have been jonesin' for my hometown, Los Angeles. Don't get me wrong I love the bay area, but it's just not home. I would always have my tantrums about living here, but it's become frequent now. Since my visit in July it's been non stop. I miss my family, the area and even the pollution! Well, maybe not the pollution :) LA there's something about you that I just can't put my finger on. I'll be back to the city of angels hopefully sometime soon!

ON THAT NEW NEW: Dimepiece Designs x Cassie

I've actually been really excited for the debut of this. I'm not too crazy for Cassie, but I do think she is an excellent model. This is also a promotion for her new album "Electro Love". I usually root for the underdog and in this case that isssss Cassie. She didnt do so well performing and promoting her self titled debut (i.e. the 106 & Park performance). But hey, if Rihanna can do it Cassie certainly can! Both have small yet distinct voices,a major mogul behind them, shaved heads, low dancing skill, but are gorgeous and can dress for days. However, I do live for Dimepiece! I most definitely will be copping a few of the fall/winter tanks and sweaters. Here are some of my faves out of the collection:

It's a pretty good deal and a great opportunity for those who have CAD (charging acct disease). Supra is also offering free shipping on orders over $50. For this economy it sounds all too sweet!

SICK CHOREO!

My friend Greg Chapkis, director of Dance Unlimited, has many groups. One of the groups out of the DU fam, Mix'd Elements recently competed in World of Dance SD and snagged 2nd place! Sick piece, amazing song selection and musicality. The boys were rippin' it and the girl was representin'!!! ENJOY!

RiRi vs. FeFe

Speaking of Fefe, there seems to be a little tension between her and Rihanna. Rihanna has been accused of SWAGGA JACKING Ms. Dobson since the unveiling of her new image for "Good girl gone bad". Here's what Fefe had to say during a recent interview:
“She [Rihanna] is supposedly a fan of mine. I try to take it as a compliment. It gets a little much when she starts getting the same tattoos as me but overall I just want people to separate the image and listen to the music”
The insult to injury must've been Fefe getting dropped from the same label as Rihanna, then seeing this chick take flight looking just like her.

Here at RB we love both ladies and admire their positive images for young black women, we can't side!

BACK and BETTER than the rest

Fefe Dobson recently posed for Honey Magazine. It's good to see her coming back and gaining more momentum with her new single "I want you". Hopefully this time around everything goes as planned and we can all enjoy the beautiful bad ass tracks on the album. There's no one like Fefe out there, music needs more individuals. A woman def not afraid to give you the finger and back her shit up.
