Talk that talk: One on One

I've received a few emails, tweets and messages from readers asking me generally the same questions. After awhile it began to occur to me that while I somewhat share my personal experiences with you all, not much is know. I'm horrible about answering all of these. I get so caught up in my life. So after months and months of inquiries, we, your editor in chiefs decided it was time to conduct interviews to familiarize you all. So please feel free to get acquainted.

1. How long have you been blogging?
For about 2 years now. It's been...interesting. Blogging is not as easy as people think. When bloggers/authors tell you to keep writing to develop your flow and your voice, it's true. There's a big difference in my writing from 2 years ago and now.
2. What do you usually prefer to write about?
Whatever intrigues me or whatever I feel must be said. I've always felt like I've had a very strong voice so I'm quite vocal about alot of my insights. Our generation is very priveledged but also very ignorant, so anything that counteracts that ignorance intrigues me. Lately my own life lessons have been on the marquee, they never used to. I always tried to look like other fashion/media blogs, but that isn't me. The blogs I love visiting most are written by people who take the time to share and put effort into what they create. I like to empathize with people, it makes me feel. So if I experience something that our generation shies away from, I say it. If I like something visually, I post it, whether it be vintage or new.
3. What/who are your inspirations?
My Mom and Dad of course. They raised me so obviously alot I do stems from them. My Dad actually inspired me to fall in love with comics and classic rock. My mother sparked my old Hollywood obsession. We watched Rosalind Russell's "Auntie Mame" when I was 8 and I became enamored. My parents inspired me to be inspired by others. Anything sparks me it seems: Tim Burton, Disney, The 7th letter crew (graffiti artists), The Addams Family, Elizabeth Taylor, macabre, Marvel, Grace Kelly, Madonna various time periods...literally anything.
4. What do you want people to take away from reading your blog?
I want them to take away the fact that you don't have to be like everyone else and that everyone goes through growing pains. We all go through growing pains, survive them and continue to live. And through living, the lessons we learn and the things we see can be beautiful. You don't have to put on a facade on Facebook/Twitter and showcase only glorious details of your life to seem a certain way. Our generation lives in a fake reality with these sites. You only see what a person allows you to, and that fucks with your brain after awhile. It does that to me. I always feel like I should be out doing the most and looking a certain way, when really I'm doing damn good. On my blog I can be me, I don't have to be 100% positive or funny or happy, I can be ME. Human nature is complex and Facebook doesn't touch that. So in short, I just want my readers to learn something new or identify with my experiences. You know? It helps to know that you're not the only 20 something woman with these interest, thoughts and battles. The 20s are no joke, full of hard knock lessons. Grab a glass of wine or some Jameson and scroll through our blog. It'll give you some hope and possibly some laughs.

Hands down, one of my favorite dresses Marilyn wore in her films.
The dress was created by her personal designer and close friend William Travilla.
How sick would it be to own this?!
The next best thing would be to have a replica made, but I'm sure nothing comes close to the authentic Travilla dress.

Dressed for the town...

Today was such a beautiful day, I had to venture out and take it all in.
It's been raining alot and was supposed to snow today as well. That's right...SNOW! Snow isn't so easy to come by in your everyday California city. Since there was still a chill in the air I decided to bundle up in wool.

IN LOVE WITH: HERVE LEGER

I worked at BCBGMAXAZRIA for 2 years. Even though I severed ties with the company for personal differences I cannot deny how enamored I am with the clothing. To this day I still pop myself into various BCBG stores and gawk at the tempting beauties on the racks. How I wish I could buy everything! Every season when collection catalogs would come out I drooled over each new Herve Leger dress (which is the highest line for BCBG).Each dress is typically a short, cocktail, bandage dress that is coordinated in a simple yet fresh fashion. Celebrities are addicted to Herve Leger, as they have the means to purchase this line. I don't blame them. There is a signature look to the line and each dress customs itself to your curves. Whenever I enter a BCBG or thrift shop I always hope to find Herve Leger there due to a fluke, but I've had no luck. One day, one day.. I will own one of these beauties.

Nicole Richie's Marchesa wedding dress

The odd anticipation in me has been bubbling up to see Nicole Richie's dress. As a fashion addict I knew it would be a sight to see..and it is! My dream wedding dress that I concoct in my mind every so often has the ingredient of long lace sleeves and a lace bodice. The bottom piece just adds to the awe factor. Her dress was designed by famed design house Marchesa and was custom made for $20,000. Nicole's inspiration for the dress derived from Grace Kelly's wedding dress. It was kind of a shock to see her in something so regal and formal vs. her ritual bohemian look, but I love it. It works for her. The dress elongated her petite frame instead of swallowing her. She looks beautiful and Joel seems happy as hell! Congrats to Mr.& Mrs. Madden!

Womanly Crisis: SHOES

photo: rihannadaily.com
For the past few years I have been living a life of walking and standing. I walk all around school, I stand up all day at work, I dance for hours. So my main wardrobe consists mainly of flats and sneakers. Sneakers are apart of my culture, everyone in the dance world is addicted to them. I love both styles of shoes but let's be honest, they aren't the snazziest things. Sometimes I can feel my inner diva dying to lash out when I'm preparing for a date or night out but my heel selection is low. So, I've shopping around at heels that I could stop traffic in and also use for various everyday activities.

VILLA
this is a platform shoe I found on Baker's. It's called the Villa. I love the sweetheart outline of this everyday platform. It also comes in purple. Runs only for 79.95!
GEORINA
these are by Jessica Simpson. I would take shoe advice from Jessica any day. She always has the cutest heels and her shoes are some of the most comfy heels I've worn. I don't normally gravitate towards heels that strap up your whole foot, but these grew on me.
These are called the Georina and are only 69.99.
STEVIE
Perfect lace up boots for fall. These are also from Baker's and were $159 but are now $89.99. Can't decide between black or brown. Both are good for any occasion.

For the Rockabilly in me I purchased this crazy Iron Fist heel. It was only $44 and it's from one of my favorite websites, pinupgirlclothing.com.

How fun are these?! Don't know if I would ever wear them but I love how bold they are.

This is definitely a heel that must be paired with a beautiful fit, or maybe just a simple black dress. The shoe can basically dress the whole outfit up. Love these, glad I bought them before they sold out!

A good peep toe/patent leather shoe is a staple in the closet.

Where do you always go to replenish your high heel stock?

SPOTLIGHT: Rihanna

If I had any kind of funds to support a lavish fashion habit i believe my wardrobe would be a little something like Rihanna's. Like everyone, she has her fashion DON'Ts but for the most part girl kills it with every fit. Especially lately, I love her use of really feminine pieces and floral patterns.

HOT ITEM: Motel Rocks dress

I won this dress from an online competition from the lovely Jasmin Rodriguez.
If you don't know Jasmin, get familiar. Her website, vintage vandalizm is a must see. I visit it twice a day sometimes. She's a lovely person who inspires and is bursting with originality and creative thought. This dress is by the clothing line Motel Rocks. They have a great selection of vintage styled dresses as well as modern day clothing. I adore this dress, it fits wonderfully and is perfect for summer. Wish we weren't saying goodbye to summer, I'd still be wearing it!
